David Tennant cast in villainous role in Upcoming Netflix show “AKA Jessica Jones”

Marvel announced today that British actor David Tennant has been cast as the villain in their second collaboration with Netflix AKA Jessica Jones. Probably best known internationally for his five year stint as the tenth Doctor Who, Tennant also played the Voldemort worshiping Death Eater Barty Crouch in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

He has been cast in the role of “Killgrave” in the upcoming 13 episode series, still set for release in late 2015 or early 2016. The character is described in the post on Marvel.com as “An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world”. While no first name was given in the article we’re speculating the character is Zebediah Killgrave AKA Purple Man as he is a significant protagonist of three of the Defenders lined up for Netflix shows, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Luke Cage. Introduced in Daredevil Vol. 1 #4 the character has ties to the other Netflix produced Marvel show being released in 2015 so would be a great choice for the connected series. We are really looking forward to seeing what David Tenant brings to the role of a recurring villain on the show.

More details of the Zebediah Killgrave are detailed below.

David Tennant Doctor Who

From the Marvel Encyclopedia: “Born in Yugoslavia, Zebediah Killgrave was a spy who was accidentally covered with an experimental nerve gas in liquid form. This permanently dyed his hair and skin purple and gave him the power to compel others to obey his commands. As the Purple Man, he was repeatedly defeated by Daredevil, one of the few people able to resist his power. For a while, he made Jessica Jones his slave. She was so traumatized, she gave up being a Super-Hero afterward.”
From Marvel.com: “After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.”
